How we research
Our approach to evidence, uncertainty and word-history myths.
Evidence before the punchline
We aim to check core claims against reputable etymological, historical, linguistic or primary sources. Where an authoritative first-party source exists, we prefer to include it.
Our evidence labels
Well established means the central history is supported by reliable references. Disputed / uncertain means credible sources differ or the evidence does not justify certainty. Popular myth identifies a widely repeated story that reliable evidence does not support.
AI and editorial review
Tools may assist research, drafting and presentation, but they are not treated as historical authorities. Core factual claims should be checked against cited sources before publication.
Corrections
When better evidence or a genuine error is identified, we aim to update the page and its evidence status where appropriate.
